The Village is pursuing funding for the project through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The Village submitted a pre-application to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) which was approved to continue the pursuit of funding from the HMGP grant program. The HMGP grant funding is available as a result of the DR 4728/4749-Declarations for the severe storms impacting Illinois which occurred June 29th through July 2nd and September 17th through September 18th in 2023. If the project is approved for the grant, the funding for the project would be a maximum 75% Federal / 25% Non-Federal (Local) cost share, which would provide substantial savings to the Village. The pursuit of the HMGP grant will impact the current project schedule pending notification of grant funding; however, the overall benefits of pursuing outside funding outweigh the potential for delays to the project schedule. It is anticipated that the pursuit of the HMGP grant program will delay the start of construction of the project by approximately one year, pushing it back to the Fall of 2025.
